Were you with us for our fun food-and-mixer meetups like Making of Bulgogi Sandwich, Gimbab Rolling contests, Mandu Fest, Korean Tea Ceremony and Namul Experiments? (If you attended the February Workshop, believe it or not, you had a sandwich with Korean flare!)

A couple of years ago Jamie hosted Mandu Fest, and everyone had a wonderful time! She's hosting another fun event in March - Korean Taco and Movie Day. And you're invited!

Please RSVP in advance so that we can have ingredients and the kitchen ready. Seating is limited. So the confirmation will be first-pay-first-serve basis.

The event is full, we are no longer taking RSVPs.
Sorry that if we cannot add you to the event this time, or you missed this event. Thanks for showing your interest; we will do this again!

UPDATE: March 1, 2012
The event is full, and we are now taking Waitlist only. IMPORTANT: Please do not, I repeat, do NOT pay unless you hear from us confirming that you are in. We won't be able to issue full refund. Thank you!

Rate your event - and how to rate it

I am quite certain most of us are clear about event rating system. Still, may I ask for 2 minutes of your time and read about it?

As you know, a few sites of KLCX has an event rating system. Your volunteers are always excited to be able to put together something you can come and enjoy; and all members long to hear how much you enjoyed the event as an attendee. Rating system is a quick way to leave your feedback. Your 15 seconds make a big difference for everyone, including yourself in the long run.

Please rate the meetup you attended. When you do, please consider following:
  1. When others see that the event was a 5-star worthy, they will be encouraged to come next time. You see, in order for us to continue no- and low-cost events, we need mass attendance. You can help us by rating the event you attended.
  2. You can encourage and motivate your volunteer staff to continue to make things happen for you. The only compensation they get is your words of encouragement. So just by rating, you motivate them!

Please rate based on the effort and content of the meetup.
Please do not rate based on the food you had, service by the venue, parking situation, people you liked or didn't like. None of your volunteers have any control over them.

If you have to rate any less than the perfect score, let us know why.
We know that even if you give the event a perfect score, there is always a room for improvements. So help us improve. You can leave a note along with your rating, email event hosts, use message boards, or leave a comments on our official blog. Email Director Yoon and you can keep your identity anonymous too!

Please let us know what you liked (so that we can keep it) and what you didn't like (so that we can make it better for you.). This is very important to both you and me, so I appreciate it. The group cannot go on without you and your feedback.

Thank you, and see you at the next meetup!

Orange County KoreanLA Kickoff Event!

Last year, we began hosting events in Orange County in order to meet the needs of our members who lived in that area. We will be officially kicking off KoreanLA Orange County with a social event on February 4th. We will be meeting for Korean BBQ and then moving on to more fun events. If you live in the OC area (or not), we encourage you to come and join us. Your presence will allow our OC host (me) and the rest of the KoreanLA staff, to get a better idea of the type of events to host in this area. If you are interested in attending, please join our meetup or facebook groups. Links will be posted at the end of the post. I hope to have the opportunity to meet everyone soon!

Hanjeongsik: Formal & Traditional Meal of Korea

A couple of months ago, someone asked me what Hanjeongsik (한정식) was. Last week upon announcing the detail about our 2011 Korean Thanksgiving Dining-out, someone asked me about its price that's more than what people are used to.

Friends, it's time we talked about Korean food - but not the one you've known all this time!

I may not be a certified culinary expert, but my knowledge comes from my own experience, growing up in a family with one of the most old-school and traditional values, observing traditional occasions and courtesy at our best abilities in changing times. So here is a "real life" knowledge that I lived, not just an expert's explanation who had to learn and hear about it from some other source written by someone who had to research it. So pardon the subjectivity as this is not from a textbook. But it is as close to the truth as it can get.

2011 Hangawi (Thanksgiving) Dinner Mixer

Fit for a Korean Noble
(well, close enough.)

~ 더도 말고 덜도 말고 한가위만 같아라 ~
Hangawi is also known as Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving Day. This year it falls on Monday, Sept 12. Your KoreanLA is taking this special day as our opportunity to meet and get to know each other!

We are also inviting members of EnglishLA (English for Busy People in Los Angeles), a group of native Koreans who are learning and practicing English language.

What is so special about this dine-out event? We will have Hansik (한식 | 한정식), which is a modern version of traditional course-meal the nobles and the riches had way back when in Korea. This is not a do-it-youself tabletop Korean BBQ, folks!

So come join us!
